In the summer of 2009, J.W. and Hesta Atkins will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
That's something special and worth celebrating, wouldn't you agree?
As their daughter, my plan is throw them two parties. One they'll know about, and one surprise!
The "known" party will be a standard affair with cake and punch, mixed nuts (no, not family, acutal nuts) and mints. It will likely be held at the church fellowship hall on a Sunday afternoon with family and friends included. Nice, but possibly a little boring, don't you think?
Now, for the surpise party idea: As Mom and Dad have a wonderful group of friends they've met camping - scattered from Nova Scotia to Sedona and everywhere in between - I would love to invite all of them to plan on spending a week or so in Alabama in June of 2009 to help us celebrate.
So, mark your calendars and make your plans for the 2nd week in June of 2009. June 7-13, 2009.
I will use this blog as a place to post helpful links, maps, whatever you need to help you make the trip. If there is something you'd like to know about pertaining to this little venture, please email me or post it in the comments section and I will make sure to post it here. Btw, I'm gleaning the guest list from those people who email Mom, but if you know of others who might want to join in, please contact me so I can extend the invitation to them as well!
I do know at this point if at least 15 couples are coming, we can reserve camping at Point Mallard Park which is the closest full-service campground to our home.
